
Bank of Uganda, Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja Bring Relief to Wildfire-Hit Community
KALUKALET, RUPA, MOROTO, UGANDA – The Bank of Uganda, in partnership with Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja, has provided relief items to the community of Kalukalet in Rupa Sub- County, Moroto District, which was recently affected by devastating wildfires.
The wildfires, which occurred last week, destroyed homes and belongings, leaving many families without necessities. In response, the Bank of Uganda and Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja quickly mobilized resources to provide emergency assistance.
“When we got information that this community had lost everything to wildfire, we mobilized our colleagues to give a helping hand in whatever way they could. I am glad that we are here handing over the relief items to this community in need; it may not be enough but kindly accept our humble contribution. We continue keeping you in our prayers for God`s providence,” said Olivia Rukundo Obusheshe, an official from the Bank of Uganda in Moroto. “We believe that it is our responsibility to give back to the community, especially in times of crisis.”
The relief items, which included posho, beans, used clothes, soap, salt, saucepans, water jags, soda, water, and jerricans, were distributed to over 150 families in the affected community.
“We are grateful for the support of the Bank of Uganda to the community of Kalukalet,” said Mathew Bitagata, Program Officer of Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja. “Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires.”
One of the beneficiaries, Nakiru Helen, a mother of four, expressed her gratitude for the support. “I lost everything in the fire,” she said. “I didn’t know how I was going to feed my children. But today, I received food and other essential items. I am so grateful for this support.”
The partnership between the Bank of Uganda and Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja demonstrates the importance of collaboration in responding to emergencies and supporting vulnerable communities.
By working together, organizations can make a more significant impact and provide critical assistance to those in need.
