Main Objective

Pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in Moroto and Napak district have access to information on (RLMP, pastoralism and other related policies) and can articulate importance of pastoralism in their area.

Results of the project

  • Produced and disseminated in the community five hundred copies of IEC materials to emphasize key messages and catalyzed communities to support and engage in the policy processes.
  • Conducted community information rallies (four {4} a Bi monthly) that formed part of campaigns around awareness and involvement in policy process.
  • Pastoralists and agro-pastoralists engaged in policy dialogues through their local and regional platforms.
  • Supported the formation and functionality of community parliaments that empowered the communities to engage their leaders and articulate their concerns and influence issues in their areas.
  • Conducted the airplay of the community parliament recordings once per month that linked the discussions to the wider community and reached out to the leaders
  • Supported participatory assessment and monitoring of Karamoja Integrated Development Program, that improved the community understanding and appreciation of the policy and also influenced the policy to integrate special consideration for the livestock sector as the most viable livelihood option
  • Published and disseminated five hundred copies of participatory visit that formed part of national level advocacy messages by the advocacy partners at national level including influencing the increased budgetary allocation for Karamoja by Greater North Parliamentary Forum.
  • Conducted four (4) monthly coordination meetings that improved appropriate coordination and information sharing among advocacy partners contributing to increased government responsiveness of national policies to pastoralists’ livelihoods and the needs of the people of Karamoja.
