Karamoja Cultural Event (KCE)

Karamoja Cultural Event (KCE) is an annual activity organized by District Local Governments with technical support from Karamoja Cultural Association (KCA) a Non-Governmental Organization based in Karamoja sub region, Uganda.

The organization was established in 2013 with the purpose of rebuilding, celebrating and promoting positive Karimojong cultural aspects geared at enhancing inclusive sustainable development within the region. Karamoja sub region is made up of the nine districts of Moroto, Karenga, Nakapiripirit, Nabilatuk, Amudat, Kotido, Kaabong, Abim and Napak. The sub region is endowed with beautiful rich culture, scenery and natural resources.

Karamoja Cultural Association also recognizes that for holistic approaches to be developed for sustainable development in Karamoja and among Ateker people, culture plays a significant role in it. It also recognizes that amidst limitations and challenges, the Karimojong people are making individual and collective progressive steps every day to cause positive social and economic change and uphold their own culture in the right spaces.

However, the continued misconceptions on who Ngakarimojong are continue to greatly hamper the pace of development in the sub region. This therefore calls for concerted efforts in the propagation of positive systems to shape discourse in the development arena. The need for a wider platform that unites the people of Karamoja and Ateker cluster, identifying, documenting, and showcasing the wealth and efforts of the Karimojong people is critical.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni closed the Karamoja Cultural Event urged the people of Karamoja to embrace peace as a key driver of development in the region.

Speaking as the guest of honor at the Karamoja Cultural Event in Karenga District, President Museveni emphasized that peace is the critical “ingredient” needed to unlock the region’s growth potential.

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Gender,Labour and Social Development supported the event with a cash contribution of Shs 200 Million according to the Minister of the Minister ,Betty Amongi.
