Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja (RCSN-K) and Multi-Community Based Development Initiative (MUCOBADI) have initiated a groundbreaking project entitled “Enhancing Governance for Inclusive Development in Karamoja.”

This innovative endeavor, supported by a substantial grant of over Shs 1.3 billion from the Royal Danish Embassy in Kampala, is scheduled to span 42 months with the objective of revolutionizing governance and service provision in the region by 2027.

The project will be implemented across various districts in Karamoja, with Riamiriam Civil Society Network-Karamoja spearheading efforts in Nadunget sub-county, Moroto District, and Rengen sub-county, Kotido District.

MUCOBADI will concentrate its activities in Moroto and Abim Districts.

Expressing his excitement about the project’s potential, Richard Omoding, Executive Director of Riamiriam Civil Society Network-Karamoja, stated: “We are delighted to embark on this initiative, which holds the promise of improving the quality of life in Karamoja.”

Omoding underscored the collaborative essence of the project, aiming to closely cooperate with local authorities, community members, and stakeholders to fortify governance structures, promote transparency and accountability, and empower citizens to demand enhanced services.

The core objectives of the project revolve around bolstering governance and service delivery.

One pivotal aim is to amplify citizen engagement and participation.

This will be achieved through the facilitation of town hall assemblies where citizens can voice concerns, offer feedback, and engage with local officials.

Furthermore, the initiative will establish community feedback mechanisms through 108 monitoring visits to evaluate service quality and responsiveness.

To further enhance community engagement, the project will provide training sessions in advocacy, leadership, and communication for community leaders, thereby augmenting their efficacy in interacting with duty bearers.

The project will prioritize enhancing the capacities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Karamoja through a comprehensive approach.

It will commence with the mapping and profiling of all CSOs to evaluate their existing capacities.

Subsequent to these evaluations, targeted capacity-building endeavors will be implemented, encompassing training to address identified gaps and offering support visits and mentorship to 40 local CSOs.

Furthermore, the project will facilitate annual interface meetings between CSOs and regulatory bodies to foster collaboration and dialogue.
