
Riamiriam Civil Society Network-Karamoja Executive Director to Represent CSOs in Moroto Human Rights Committee
MOROTO– In a move aimed at strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights in Moroto District, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Moroto has appointed Richard Omoding, the Executive Director of Riamiriam Civil Society Network – Karamoja, as the representative of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Moroto District Human Rights Committee.
The appointment signed by Samuel Lokong on behalf of the CAO Moroto, which was made on February 17th, 2023, is in line with the provisions of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as amended and CAP 24 of the Human Rights Act, which provides for the establishment of Officers at the District and other administrative levels for the betterment of the performance of the Uganda Human Rights function.
Omoding’s appointment is seen as a significant step towards enhancing the participation of CSOs in the promotion and protection of human rights in Karamoja subregion. As a representative of CSOs on the committee, Omoding will work closely with other stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and other human rights actors, to promote and protect human rights in the district.
“CSOs play a critical role in promoting and protecting human rights, and we are committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the rights of all individuals in Moroto District and Karamoja as a whole are respected and protected,” Omoding said.
The Moroto District Human Rights Committee is mandated to promote and protect human rights in the district, and to investigate and report on human rights abuses. The committee is composed of representatives from various stakeholders, including government Officials, CSOs, community leaders, and other human rights actors.
The appointment of Omoding as the CSO representative on the committee is expected to strengthen the committee’s work and to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights in Moroto District.
